European Metal Recycling (EMR) is a global leader in sustainable materials, recycling over 10 million tonnes of metals and plastics a year… that’s about the same weight as 1.5million elephants! We recycle everything from airpods to aircraft carriers!

EMR work with everyone from individual households to small business; and international firms to governments to ensure as much of our waste products as possible remain in the circular economy.

This first of two sessions with EMR will explain the vast and growing number of roles available to you at our organisation – with a focus on digital, business and commercial roles linked to the green economy.

During the sessions you will:
– Be given an overview of the recycling sector and business.
– Find out and be able to chat with current EMR apprentices to find out what its really like to work in this sector.
– Hear a talk from an expert from the business. Our Managing Director for Technology and Innovation will outline how we approach some of trickier recycling challenges.

More importantly EMR want young people who care about the future of their planet to have a voice and shape the future of their organisation (after all you could be working with them in a few years!). At the end of this Discovery Session, students will be set the challenge of undertaking an environmental review of a typical EMR recycling depot as a follow up task. Students will be asked to further develop their work life skills by carrying out a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) Analysis and are asking YOU to directly report back to them any recommendation about what EMR can do to support their “Decade of Action” and Net Zero goal for 2040. This is your chance to influence and make real change… The innovation team will select the best ideas and give a lucky group of students the chance to experience the feasibility of putting their idea into practice. Imagine how great this will look on future CVs and UCAS applications!

This is just one of two sessions available for you to attend, to find out EVEN MORE about green careers at EMR, their second recycling session will take place on 10th November, focusing on Operations and Engineering roles. Don’t worry if you can’t make both, remember every eco action helps!
