Are any of your students applying to Medical School this year? Many students are anxious to understand what preparing for medical school interviews involves and how they can start preparing for them. As we know, preparation is essential to their success.

This workshop hosted by Dr Lynch and Dr Loughrey will help your students start exploring what they can do now as part of their interview preparation, including hot topics, answering techniques, and the ‘do’s and don’ts’ when it comes to performance on the day.

Dr Lynch’s Background
Employed as Consultant Psychiatrist in Belfast Health and Social Care Trust for 22 years working in acute care and as part of a community mental health team. Throughout her career has been involved with assisting trainee doctors, nurses and healthcare professionals with CV preparation and interview skills. Previous involvement with admission process to Queen’s University Belfast Medical School.

Dr Loughrey’s Background
Employed as a Consultant Psychiatrist in Belfast Health and Social Care Trust and has held the role of Head of School for Psychiatry within Northern Ireland. Dr Loughrey has been involved in the medical school interview practice for several years, working with the teachers and pupils from numerous schools.

    • NHS Hot Topics – from Junior Doctors, Vaccinations and the NHS, Euthanasia and Assisted Dying, AI in Medicine, Brexit and the NHS, A&E – In Crisis? Mental Health etc.
    • How to display empathy?
    • Refining your listening skills, and using open questions
    • How to explain something new, and know that the interviewer understands it
    • How to structure your answers, when you know too much, or too little.
    • Top tips to pick up easy marks at a question station.

We will also share some short videos from various doctors with diverse medical backgrounds and career pathways.
