HELP YOUNG PEOPLE LIKE JOYCE TO GET THE OPPORTUNITIES THEY NEED

Meet Joyce. Joyce is from Merton in London. Like millions of other young people in the UK, she struggled to access opportunities to experience the world of work during the pandemic.

Fortunately, Joyce was able to secure a virtual work experience placements with Caxton Associates and the Bank of England through Speakers for Schools that allowed her to start building her skills and boosting her confidence and her CV for the future. She now plans to work in finance and feels much better informed about how to make this happen.

Everything physically I could do just went, gone, vanished… And I didn’t want my CV to be empty – that’s the worst thing – so I was distraught… Since [doing virtual work experience], I’ve learnt so much. I think it’s so important for everyone to get work experience because you need some sort of foundation as to how to build your skills

Joyce, 16, from Merton
