Support Speakers for Schools

Young people are at the heart of what we do at Speakers for Schools. We are always keen to encourage more young people to help us fulfil our aim to support one million young people annually by the end of the academic year 2022/23.

Fundraising for Speakers for Schools is one way that your school, college or university can help ensure that we can continue to deliver support to young people all over the UK, especially those who need it most.

If your school, college, or university would like to help raise funds to enable more young people in your community to benefit from our support, we’d love to hear from you.

There are lots of ways that staff, students and parents can have fun while fundraising. Our team can support your fundraising activity every step of the way, whatever the scale of your ambitions – from choosing us as your ‘Charity of the year’ to hosting a bake sale or holding a dress-down day.

If you’d like to support us but are still struggling for ideas for the perfect school fundraising activity, here are some tried and tested ideas to help inspire you…

  • Host a disco, a BBQ, or even a ball with guests making a donation, or buying tickets
  • Hold a quiz night for parents, staff, and students – have fun bringing people together online or in-person to test their knowledge and raise funds for a good cause
  • Organise a sponsored walk, a fun run, sports day, or any sort of sporting event – pit house or faculty teams against each other to see who can raise the most money, or why not let students compete against the teachers and staff to make it more interesting?
  • Organise a community carwash, or put on a fair, drama production, music recital, art or fashion show to fundraise to help more young people fulfil their potential.

Don’t forget, if your school or college is state-funded, your school and your students qualify for support from our charity’s Experience programme.
By registering for our Experience programme, young people can:

  • Access tens of thousands of free online and in-person placements throughout the year
  • Gain first-hand experience of the world of work
  • Try out different industries or try several placements in the same industry

I really enjoyed working with Spaceport Cornwall, during my experience I worked in a team to develop a new product using existing satellite technology to help the local community… Working on a project like this has further inspired me to pursue a career in aerospace engineering and allowed me to meet Some people who do jobs similar to those I want later in life.

Beau, 14, from Birmingham

Completed a 3-day virtual work experience placement with Spaceport Cornwall

Please note: A large proportion of our placements are being run online due to ongoing restrictions caused by the pandemic.
