Freeman of the Company of Watermen and Lightermen River Thames after 7 years’ apprenticeship; National Service RAF 1951-53; Ruskin College Oxford; Deputy Director European Movement; OBE awarded for services to Europe 1973; Member of Parliament 1966-70 and 1974-9;tractor driver after losing seat; Director General English Speaking Union 1979-86; Residential Warden and CEO Toynbee Hall East End 1987-92; Fellow and visiting Professor Queen Mary College; Director then President Atlantic Council UK 1992-; President Atlantic Treaty Association 2000-3;Chair Cedar Centre Isle of Dogs 1991-2008; charity fundraiser fortune telling and events organiser. Publications include jointly written pamphlets and books with my identical twin brother on defence and our wartime childhood.
