Arabella Weir

Arabella Weir is a comedy actor and writer, broadcaster and presenter.

She is probably best known as one of the stars of the BBC’s multi-award-winning The Fast Show. Since then she has also become well known for her contributions to all of the Grumpy Old Women series . As an actor, she has most recently appeared in the cult teen drama SKINS as Anna, Michelle’s mother. Arabella also wrote, and starred in with Richard E. Grant, the spoof cookery show Posh Nosh shown on BBC2.

Arabella has written four books including the international bestseller ‘Does my bum look big in this?’ taken from the character, Insecure Woman, which she originally created for The Fast Show.

Arabella recently recorded Down the Line, Ancient Mysteries and The Simon Day Show all for Radio 4.

Arabella has just co-created an all-female quiz show – Different for Girls – which has been optioned by the production company RDF. She is currently writing a pilot for a sitcom, Mum’s Army (based on her many years as an active PTA member at her children’s primary and secondary schools). She frequently writes for the Guardian newspaper among other high-profile publications and writes a regular column in the PTA magazine and a driving column for The Lady. Her latest book, The Real Me is Thin, a memoir about her lifelong battle with a packet of chocolate biscuits, comes out in paperback in June 2011.

Arabella runs the charitable lottery at her children’s secondary school, Highgate Wood School in north London, where she is also on the executive committee of the PTA. She is a patron/trustee for the charities One Parent Families, Circle Scotland and PiggyBankKids.
