Ben de Pear, 48, began his journalism career on the Staines and Ashford News as an intern. He joined Sky News in 1994 and went on to become foreign producer based in London 1996-2000. From 2000-2005 he was based in Johannesburg as Africa editor. During his time at Sky, he obtained the only interview with Robert Mugabe since 2000.

In 2005 he joined Channel 4 News as foreign producer, became foreign editor 2008 and was appointed editor in August 2012.

As head of foreign news, de Pear has led Channel 4 News’s investigation into the end of Sri Lanka’s civil war, which prompted a United Nations investigation and calls for a war crimes tribunal.
This formed the basis of last year’s award-winning Sri Lanka’s Killing Fields programme, produced by ITN for Channel 4.

Ben has won numerous Royal Television Society awards, including consecutive News Programme of the Year awards, three Amnesty International awards, three FPA awards, a BAFTA and two International Emmy awards.

Since its launch, the programme has been regularly awarded by the Royal Television Society, BAFTA, Broadcast, Amnesty International and One World Media for its home news stories, extensive foreign coverage and team of experienced presenters, editors, correspondents and reporters.
