Ms. Debbie Martínez is a senior Engineer Project Manager working at NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC) since 1990 supporting NASA aeronautics and space exploration missions. She has over 30 years of experience in engineering, technical, and managerial positions supporting both Aeronautics and Space mission projects.
Currently, Ms. Martínez is the Execution Manager for the Convergent Aeronautics Solutions (CAS) Project under the Transformative Aeronautics Concepts Program. She is responsible for overall performance oversight and execution of all CAS activities (ranging from 9 to 15 independent activities, ~$40M total budget) and ensure their prioritization are aligned with research feasibility priorities across all four Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate (ARMD) NASA centers.
Ms. Martínez is a proactive participant in NASA educational outreach program efforts. She participates in the NASA LaRC Speakers Bureau which has enabled her to be an international ambassador promoting NASA mission work to numerous government agencies/military, academic institutions’ and professional events/panels. In December 2016, Ms. Martínez served on the “Modern Figures In Space Exploration” panel in commemoration of the Hidden Figures movie prescreening event hosted in the White House by First Lady Michelle Obama. For the past 20 years, she has supported LaRC Office of Diversity and Equal Opportunity (ODEO) by serving as served as NASA LaRC Hispanic Employee Program Advisory Group chair, and the HEP@NASA LaRC site webmaster (https://oeop.larc.nasa.gov/hep). She has established four (4) minority web sites (Latina Women of NASA, NASA Hispanic Astronauts, WON LaRC, and NASA HEP) which has provided young women and Hispanics everywhere with on-line mentors. In 2016, she established and chairs the ODEO Hispanic Employee Advisory Committee (HEAC) Employee Resource Group. She is a co-founding member of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers Southeast Virginia (SHPE/SEVA) chapter (2004), a member of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) Hampton Roads Chapter, and a member of American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA).
In addition to receiving numerous NASA Accomplishment, Performance and Team/Group Excellence awards, she has been the recipient of industry awards such as the 2016 HENAAC Great Minds in STEM Award – Community Service Award, 2015 Career Achievement Award at the Women of Color STEM Conference, and the 2014 ODU Batten College of Engineering & Technology’s Pioneer Award. She has been featured in various textbook, magazine articles, web sites, local Hampton Roads radio and international talk shows and Hispanic Television shows & Newspapers (such as Telemundo, and San Juan El Nuevo Dia).
Martínez earned has earned a B.S. in Computer Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, A.S. in Engineering from TNCC, M.E. in Modeling & Simulation Engineering from Old Dominion University, and a Private Pilot license from Langley Air Force Base Aero Club.
