Lecturer, Aston University

After a research career that brought me from Germany over Spain and the US to the UK, I am a Lecturer in Mathematics at Aston University in Birmingham since 2013.

Being a physicist by training (PhD from Technical University Berlin), my career path has been as diverse as the topics I have worked on: from physics and physical chemistry – while I was in the Fritz Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society in Berlin – to molecular evolution and the origin of life – while I was working in the Center for Astrobiology in Madrid and at Harvard University. My passion is about finding common patterns in the systems I study and to understand their dynamics and evolution. Fascinatingly, many of these patterns and processes share a common mathematical description that in turn enables us to learn more about the dynamical systems that govern our lifes.
