Dr Stephen Lynch FIMA SFHEA

Reader, Department of Computing & Mathematics , Manchester Metropolitan University

Stephen Lynch is a Reader at the Department of Computing & Mathematics , Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU). In order to encourage more high school students to apply to study Mathematics at University level, he established a Schools Liaison forum in the North West of England, which has now been running for almost 20 years. Stephen can either visit your school or alternatively, arrange a day visiting MMU. He has three popular talks entitled “What is Maths?”, “Fun with Robots” and “Brain Inspired Computing” – they can all be tailored to meet the school’s needs.

Technology is making more and more of an impact on Maths education. He supports computer based Mathematics education and has written Python, Maple™, MATLAB® and Mathematica® books (all published by Springer) – the code for which is freely available to download from the Web.

Stephen is also an inventor, he co-invented Binary Oscillator Computing, the subject of UK, International and Taiwanese patents. The invention is simple to describe to school pupils aged 13-18 and could potentially have far reaching applications in Computing and Healthcare Science.
