After leaving school at 16 I became an accountant by studying at night school and qualified as an ACCA at the age of 21. During my twenties I held a number of finance jobs at Unilever, Dunlop and Automotive Products and became Finance Director at 30 for N Brown Group Plc. Moved out of finance and undertook roles in logistics, marketing, product eventually becoming CEO in early 40’s. N Brown sold fashion, household and electrical products on credit originally by mail order catalogues and progressively developing websites. Retired at age 58 with N Brown turnover of £500m and net profit £60m.

Chairman of a number of private, plc, private equity and start up companies in retail and financial services and was Chairman of The Christie hospital for six years and currently Chairman of Maggie’s Manchester
