Jonathan Foster

Chief Fire Officer, North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service


Jonathan has a career spanning 39 years with North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service. He started his career as an On-Call firefighter (part time) and progressed his career aspiration to become a wholetime firefighter, before working his way through the various roles to become Chief Fire Officer. He now has overall responsibility for the fire and rescue provision for North Yorkshire and the City of York. Jonathan has worked in various departments during his career including being an instructor at the Training Centre. His role now includes working very closely and in collaboration with other senior officers in the other emergency services and wider agencies, to ensure satisfactory plan are in place to protect the public. He reports into the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner and is responsible for delivery of the Commissioners Fire and Rescue plan.
