Kamal Patel

Director, Corporate Finance & Property Directorate, Department for Transport

I have enjoyed a 25 year career covering both the private and public sector. I am currently a Partner at EY (one of the largest global financial service providers) leading the Corporate Finance Transport team across the UK. I previous worked at Department for Transport (a Government Department) where I led a team of 50 professionals providing corporate finance and property advice. Prior to joining the Civil Service I spent the majority of my career working in the banking and financial services sectors.

At my time at the DfT I focused on improving social mobility and BAME representation at the senior grades, having for a long time been the only BAME head of department. I was a race champion and support the BAME and Social Mobility networks through sponsoring, mentoring, speaking at events and challenging the Department’s Executive Committee on our action plans.

By way of personal background, my parents moved to Croydon in the early 70’s as Indian refugees from Uganda. I had a traditional state education and was lucky enough to go to university where I studied mathematics.
