33 years’ experience as a global leader in healthcare, successful senior partner of a world-wide professional services firm, KPMG, and award-winning author. Former member of the NHS Management Board in the U.K.

Worked in 81 countries on ~380 occasions with teams delivering strategy, policy & operations. Led high-performing healthcare organisations at local, regional, national and international levels; payer and provider; public and private sectors.

Over 11 years, delivered sustainable growth in Healthcare, Government & Infrastructure at KPMG International, accounting for 22% of total global revenues and 45,000 staff across 145 countries.

Returned to the KPMG UK partnership in October 2020, appointed Vice-Chairman KPMG UK in conjunction with healthcare responsibilities.

Award winning author of ‘In Search of the Perfect Health System’, sold in 109 countries and translated into Mandarin, Korean & Portuguese. Awarded best health & care book by the British Medical Association and the Chinese Doctors Medical Union.

Second book, ‘Human: Solving the global workforce crisis in healthcare’ published by Oxford University Press in 2019. First edition sold out in 4 months. Published in Mandarin, released in Beijing, August 2020.

Member of World Economic Forum Global Health Council from 2014 to 2018.

Director General at the Department of Health and member of the NHS Management Board, helping design, develop and deliver ‘High Quality Care For All’.

Chief Executive of NHS South Central which ran the NHS from Oxford to Isle of Wight and member of the NHS Management Board; led the successful financial turnaround of the region.

Chief Executive of one of the highest performing hospitals in U.K., University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust; masterminded new Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Royal Centre for Defence Medicine.

Former Executive Director of Central Middlesex Hospital NHS Trust (developed first-ever Ambulatory Care & Diagnostic Centre in the UK) and General Manager at St Mary’s Hospital NHS Trust in London, across four hospital sites.
