Head of Fraud Prevention, Tesco plc

Having worked through hospitality and call centres I’m a firm believer that the right approach for career building is to work hard and explore opportunities until a passion is uncovered. Where passion and ability overlap, I’ve found this the greatest combination to find professional success, happiness and ultimately a platform from which to launch a career.

One of the greatest hindrances to success is self-doubt, I have, and do, personally struggle with this at times. As such I do all I can to simplify expectations, pressures and failures. These should be normalized, accepted and learned from instead of being avoided at all costs. There is no such thing as a savant who knows all and never gets it wrong; we all need to accept failure as part of our lives, to learn from it and improve. Any success is built on the decisions we make and our ability to understand, question and ultimately listen to the experts we have around us.

I have spent over 10 years working in fraud prevention from standing over individual teams, customer facing products, internal threats and finally standing responsible for Fraud Risk Management across Tesco. The principles of risk management are remarkably simple, and I’d welcome the opportunity to share these and the benefits that a risk mind set can bring us all.
