Professor Peter Reynolds

Professor of Theatre Studies (emeritus)

Peter Reynolds failed the 11+ and went to a secondary modern school which he left as soon as he could at the age of 15 with no qualifications. Luckily for him, he had one teacher who believed in him and who encouraged him to try for drama school. He got into Central School in London but couldn’t make it as an actor and after 18 months was unceremoniously thrown out. Following a series of awful jobs, he went to night school and successfully applied to read English at Sussex. Subsequently his career picked up and he taught theatre studies to undergraduates as well a running workshops for the British Council and others throughout the world. He has published several books, won two BAFTAS, and worked for both the National Theatre and the RSC.
