Professor, English Studies

I am Professor of English studies and Head of English at the University of Southampton. I am also a musician and theatre director as well as an academic, have run my own theatre company, and have worked as a dramaturg with Shakespeare’s Globe in London, the English Shakespeare Company, and Shakespeare Santa Cruz (California). I have edited a range of Early Modern plays and poems, including Marlowe’s Faustus, and the works of Richard Edwards, and was co-editor of the collection Shakespeare and War. My other books include Shakespeare: a Beginner’s Guide, and Cymbeline: Constructions of Britain. I have extensive experience giving workshops and talks to school students and teachers.
