Richard Meddings

Richard Meddings is the Chairman of TSB Banking Group plc. He is also a Non-Executive Director of HM Treasury where he chairs the Audit Committee for HMT and for the whole of Government Accounts. Richard is also Chair of the Hastings Opportunity Area and serves as a Trustee of Teach First.

Richard was Group Finance Director of Standard Chartered from 2006-2014 and a main Board Executive Director from 2002. Before joining Standard Chartered he served as Group Financial Controller of Barclays PLC and as Group Finance Director of Woolwich, after several years in corporate finance in Credit Suisse, BZW and Hill Samuel.

Richard served as a Non-Executive Director and Senior Independent director on the Board of 3i, and Non-Executive Director on the Boards of Legal & General, Jardine Lloyd Thompson and Deutsche Bank, where he chaired Audit, Risk and Remuneration committees across these roles.

Richard chaired an avoidable blindness charity, Seeing is Believing, for 12 years from 2003 – 2015, raising $100m.

Richard attended Wolverhampton Grammar School, and read modern history at Exeter College, Oxford. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Price Waterhouse in 1983.
