Richard has over thirty years of experience in broadcasting and has been a Director for some of the BBC’s most prestigious programmes over the past decade.

First captivated by hospital radio in Epping, Essex and Radio Top Shop in London, Richard joined BBC Radio as a sound engineer, mainly working on Radio 1 and Radio 2 programmes. From BBC Radio Drama, to taking responsibility for Multi-Track Music recording at BBC Maida Vale, as Studio Manager, he eventually ended up working for the News and Sport division as a Senior Studio Manager.

Richard then joined BBC TV News, as a Studio Operator, where he gained a fundamental understanding of lighting and video operation, on his journey of training to become a Vision Mixer on a whole range of BBC News programme outputs.

From being a Vision Mixer, Richard took the next step was into Directing – giving Richard the opportunity to lead programmes ranging from BBC World News, to ‘Breakfast With Frost’, the BBC1 National News and the ‘Sunday Politics’ programme.

Travel has featured significantly in his day-to-day work; directing eighteen Outside Broadcasts in places as diverse as Dhaka, Bangladesh to New York and Washington. Richard regards the opportunity of meeting the President of the United States during a day spent at the White House as a highlight of his career. Richard has also been an active member of BAFTA for more than 10 years.
