Rob Woodward

Chair, Met Office & Former CEO, STV Group PLC & Trustee, NESTA


Rob has specialised in the TMT sector for the past 30 years and he has worked at the most senior positions in media and technology companies as a leader and senior adviser. In March 2007 Rob was appointed CEO of STV Group plc where he led the turnaround of the company and positioned STV as Scotland’s leading commercial digital media company before leaving in December 2017. He was also a founding trustee of the STV Children’s Appeal.
Rob was appointed Pro-Chancellor and Chair of the Council of City, University of London in February 2012 until February 2018. In March 2018 Rob was appointed as Chair of Court of Glasgow Caledonian University. He is Chair of the technology company Blancco plc and in May 2018 was appointed Chair of independent marketing and media consulting company Ebiquity plc. In July 2018 he was appointed as Chair of The Met Office.
In November 2014 Rob was appointed by the Scottish Government as Chair of the Developing Young Workforce Group, which is leading work to support employer involvement in developing Scotland’s young workforce. He is also a Trustee of The Royal Television Society. In 2017 he became a Commissioner of the Northern Lighthouse Board and until 2016 was a Trustee of Nesta the UK’s leading innovation charity.
Prior to this, Rob was Commercial Director of Channel 4 Television Corporation and transformed the performance of Channel 4’s commercial businesses and positioned Channel 4 for the digital age.
Rob was previously an MD of UBS Warburg and global COO of corporate finance in Media and Communications. He worked initially in the global Telecoms team in both London and New York and latterly was the co-head of the European Technology Group.
Prior to this he was Managing Partner of Braxton UK, Deloitte’s European Telecoms Media and Technology business and UK strategy consulting practice. He also led Deloitte Consulting’s European TMT group.
