Robert Elsey

Rob Elsey is Executive Director for Technology, and the Bank’s Chief Information Officer. He is responsible for all aspects of technology and programme delivery across the Bank, and he also runs the Bank’s IT Cyber Security Division. Technology at the Bank includes a range of systems, from business-critical operational applications like real-time gross settlement (RTGS) which settles £600 billion daily of sterling payments and securities transactions, notes and gold inventory management through to data ingestion and analytics platforms. Rob is a board member of both RTGS/CHAPS and its risk oversight committee.

Rob is passionate about new and emerging technology, and supporting its effectiveness within the Bank and across the industry. He is proud to lead a strong team in growing and developing the Bank’s digital agenda and enhancing technical capabilities.

Before joining the bank as Chief Technology Officer in October 2015, Rob has spent his career working across both finance and technology, in the UK and overseas. Prior to his current role Rob was Head of IT for Vodafone UK. His other roles have included Head of Collections and managing revenue assurance within Finance, he was also Head of Business Intelligence at both Cable & Wireless and Vodafone.

Rob has a BSc in Business Systems Engineering.
