Sarah Cowley

Sarah Cowley was appointed as British Ambassador to the Republic of Latvia in May 2013. She has 15 years experience working for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. She served in the British embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan and the British High Commission in Islamabad, Pakistan. She was also seconded to the EU delegation in Kabul as a political advisor on peace and reconciliation.

In the Foreign Office in London, Sarah worked to improve links between business and the FCO, led an FCO team during the London 2012 Olympics, was Private Secretary to the UK’s Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan and to the Minister for the Middle East. Sarah currently leads a team spending international aid money in Asia, Africa, South America and some areas of Europe, to reduce poverty and work with international business in the aid context. Her team is based in London but she leads them remotely as she lives in Prague, Czech Republic.

Before joining the Foreign Office Sarah worked for DLA Piper and KPMG
in London. She also worked for 2 years for an NGO in Belize and Guatemala.

Sarah’s interests include travel and outdoor activities, particularly walking, running and being in the mountains. She is married and has 2 young daughters. She grew up in Norfolk and studied history at University College London. She also has an MBA.
