Mixed race (British Asian), spent many years in childhood in social housing with a single mum and looked after by my Nan. Went to Oxford to read law, but have also done a degree part time with the Open University, done post-grad at a polytechnic and am doing a part-time degree with Warwick Business School, so experience of all sorts of educational establishments. I have also taught from A level to university level. Really keen to understand, help and mentor those who are struggling to make the system work for them and to help raise the aspirations of all students. So often I have found that it’s difficult to be it if you cannot see it, and I want to share some of my learning from being in interviews when people openly questioned your ability to do a job because of your gender or heritage.
