Shingi Mararike is a news reporter at The Sunday Times. His route into journalism began with the News Academy, a scheme aimed at bringing young people from a diverse range of backgrounds into the industry. After interning on multiple desks at The Sunday Times, he was hired as their first ever apprentice in 2017, becoming a news reporter in February 2018. He has worked on multiple front page stories and specialises in writing about race, social mobility and the serious youth violence. Shingi has also appeared on BBC and Sky Television on multiple occasions and interviewed the likes of Sir Mo Farah and Nicola Sturgeon.
