The local space sector in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly is growing quickly. There are numerous opportunities within the area from both upstream (launch, rockets and space systems) and downstream (satellite applications, communications) innovations.

VWEX scenario:

  • You have recently heard about a pot of funding available to young people that is asking for students to identify new business opportunities in the space sector.
  • You have been tasked to write a brief for a new space business that will take advantage of some of the latest innovations or adapt and improve current business that are already in operation.
  • This challenge will be split down into four key zones: Research, Business Idea, Marketing and Finance, you will be required to present your ideas in any format you deem appropriate, this could include a video, presentation, written report, product design or any other innovative way that you think will be best. The judging of the entries will consider how well each has been presented.

You will work in teams and be supported throughout your VWEX with interactions from staff at Spaceport Cornwall and the wider space sector. A full explanation of your tasks will be provided to you on the first day, where any questions about the VWEX can also be raised.

Throughout the experience you will be split into random teams of 5 or 6 and each have a role to play in the formation of the idea and presentation back to Spaceport staff!
