Andrew Jenkins

Sustainability Manager Global Brands, Walgreens Boots Alliance

After graduating in Environmental Science, Andrew worked in product and packaging design management and development for several major manufacturing and retailing organisations including the Storehouse Group.

Since joining Walgreens Boots Alliance his work has evolved from implementing processes to meet international environmental regulations to introducing and embedding a culture of holistic thinking on sustainability in product development, manufacturing and retail.

A member of the Global Brands Quality & Regulatory Policy team, Andrew develops Boots strategy and standards on sustainable sourcing and product sustainability, and advises product marketing and development groups on sustainable development issues. This includes creation of innovative holistic sustainable product design & development processes covering the wide portfolio of Boots products.

Andrew is responsible for developing external stakeholder partnerships in the area of sustainable development with international trade associations, research, academic institutions and NGOs
He represents the company on several external committees and initiatives including the WWF Global Forest Trade Network and European Retailer Palm Oil Working Group. He also is on the Steering Group of the UK government sponsored “Circular Economy Task Force” and a member of the UK Product Sustainability Forum.
He has also represented the company and sector trade associations on a number of International standards development committees, including the Sigma guidelines for integrating sustainable development into business, the EU Roundtable on Sustainable Development standards and the BSi committee responsible for BS8900 Guidance for Managing Sustainable Development, and British Standard PAS 2021 “Exercising due diligence in establishing the legal origin of timber and timber products – Guide to Regulation (EU) 995/2010”. He is currently on BSi committee CB/503/0-/01 Flushable Products

Recent innovative achievements include pioneering studies on product carbon footprinting with the Carbon Trust, the EU FP7 MyEcoCost project, and he led the development of the award winning Boots Product Sustainability Assessment modelling technique.
The holistic approach to sustainability undertaken by Boots is recognised by awards including:

• 2014 Business in the Community Big Tick Award – Sustainable Products and Services
• 2014 Gold Award Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence (HKAEE) in the Servicing and Trading Sector
