Dr Will Tosh, Author, Researcher and Educator

NTBC: That Self-Same Metal Session 3

Wednesday 21st May 2025

11-19

Our NTBC Q&A is with Dr Will Tosh, Head of Research at Shakespeare’s Globe in London. We’re discussing Will’s career, including his research on how Shakespeare was influenced by queer culture, detailed in his non-fiction book Straight Acting: The Many Queer Lives of William Shakespeare. This links to our hero read, That Self-Same Metal by Brittany N. Williams, which follows LGBT+ characters in a reimagined Shakespearean London.

Will Tosh is Head of Research at Shakespeare’s Globe, London. He teaches, writes about, and researches the literature and culture of Shakespeare’s England, and he leads the Globe’s scholarly research mission. Will’s work at the Globe includes dramaturgy, new writing development and public engagement in person, in the media and online. He is the author of three non-fiction books: Playing Indoors: Staging Early Modern Drama in the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse; Male Friendship and Testimonies of Love in Shakespeare’s England, which revealed the intimate social circle of the Elizabethan spy Anthony Bacon; and his latest book (2024), Straight Acting: The Many Queer Lives of William Shakespeare.
