More about what we do:
Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) is part of the West Midlands Combined Authority. We work with bus and train operators in the region to make sure that public transport is:
- Safe
- Reliable
- Affordable
- Accessible for everyone
We own and run West Midlands Metro, which is the region’s tram service. We also run the Swift smartcard – the most used flexible, cashless ticket outside London.
We work in collaboration with bus and train operators in the region to ensure it is running smoothly, and are a part of the West Midlands Rail Executive and West Midlands Bus Alliance.
We’re responsible for monitoring and improving road safety in the West Midlands. Through the Key Route Network, we look after the 23 busiest routes in the region.
We also manage the Regional Transport Coordination Centre for the West Midlands. The centre monitors our transport network and helps keep the region moving at all times, but especially during major events like the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Our environment team are further developing our work on climate adaptation. This means we’re thinking about the adjustments we need to make to prepare our region for the impacts of climate change – warmer, wetter winters, hotter, drier summers and more extreme weather events. We’re thinking about how we can keep people connected and moving as the climate continues to change.
