Brian Lightman was General Secretary of the Association of School and College Leaders from September 2010 – January 2016. This is a trade union representing more than 18000 schoo leaders. Brian is acknowledged as an authority on the English and Welsh education systems. Now self-employed he has a wide ranging portfolio providing support for school improvement. His broad experience within the English and Welsh systems has included 2 headships, extensive representation on UK and Welsh Assembly Government committees, being an external examiner and an Estyn inspector. He serves on the boards of an academy trust and the Careers and Enterprise Company.
