Former Government Minister and Electoral Commissioner

A former secondary school teacher, teaching English and History, I was also Head of Careers Education and Guidance. I was a Member of Parliament for 18 years including eight years in government as a Whip and subsequently a Minister in the Ministry of Justice. My portfolio included, courts, elections, youth engagement, cemeteries and cremations!
I was an Electoral Commissioner for 4 years as well as trustee of a number of charities.
I am Chair of Age Exchange, a charity supporting people with dementia and their carers.
Apart from the usual hobbies of reading, cinema, walking etc, I enjoy football, quizzes, crosswords and cats.
