Dr Matt Kearney

National Clinical Director for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention, NHS England

Dr Matt Kearney is a General Practitioner and is the National Clinical Director for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention. In this role, he is leading work to help the NHS ‘get more serious about prevention’ of heart attacks, strokes and dementia by improving our performance in diagnosing and treating high-risk conditions like high blood pressure, raised cholesterol and diabetes. To achieve this he is working with professional bodies, commissioners, local authorities and third sector organisations to mobilise leadership for change and to develop new ways of working that help patients get the care they need.

Previously Matt worked as an advisor to the Department of Health respiratory programme (2013-2016). He was also a member of the NICE Public Health Interventions Advisory Committee from 2005 to 2013, helping develop guidance for the NHS and local authorities on how to improve prevention of disease.

Matt lives in Shropshire with his wife. He has three grown up sons and one granddaughter.
