Sir Stephen Deuchar

Former Director, Art Fund and Tate Britain

As Director of Art Fund, I worked with museums, galleries, their visitors and artists across the UK. The Art Fund raises millions of pounds a year to help bring works of art into public collections, to help with the training and development of museum staff, and to help museums reach the public in new and adventurous ways. My first job was as a curator at Royal Museums Greenwich (1985-1998), and my second was Director of Tate Britain (1998-2010) – where I also organised the annual Turner Prize – so I’ve been lucky enough to spend my whole career surrounded by art and culture, historic to contemporary.
