Peter Ayton

Department of Psychology Associate Dean Research | School of Arts and Social Sciences, City University London

I am a professor of psychology at City University where I have been since 1992. My research analyses human judgement, risk perception and decision-making. This covers a huge range of subjects – including gambling, attitudes to health and safety, people’s beliefs about luck & happiness and why they find decisions difficult.

I have edited or authored four books – including one on the Psychology and Economics of Football – and numerous papers in scientific journals, but have also written for popular outlets such as New Scientist, Psychology Today and The Guardian. I have appeared on Radio and television in programmes as diverse as “The moral maze”’ “Woman’s Hour”; “Today” “Newsnight”; “The one show” and “You and Yours”.
