Shahzad Younas

Founder and CEO, Muzmatch

Shahzad Younas is the founder and CEO of muzmatch, the world’s largest faith based dating app for single Muslims.

A native of Salford, Manchester, Shahzad studied Computer Science at The University of Manchester.

He graduated with a First class honours, and was awarded the Victoria Medal for being the highest ranking graduate.

After graduating, he moved to London and initially started working at Morgan Stanley on the trading floor as an Algorithmic Sales Trader. Upon leaving, Shahzad rose to become a Portfolio and Index Risk Trader in the Institutional Equities Division, and was promoted to Vice President.

In 2011, disheartened by the lack of opportunities available for young professional single Muslims to meet, he launched muzmatch.com. Originally a website, he observed that the majority of members were accessing the service on their phones. It was then he realised there was an opportunity to develop something in the nascent mobile app world that could transform how Muslims meet and marry.

After nine successful years working in the financial industry, Shahzad quit his job at Morgan Stanley, taught himself how to code, shut down the website and launched muzmatch on the Android and Apple app stores in April 2015.

Shahzad is a fitness fanatic, a keen runner, he has completed the Reading Half Marathon, he also regularly takes part in charity bike rides. He has climbed Snowdon, Jebel Shams in Oman and Scafell Pike. He cycles 18 miles everyday and is a jump rope enthusiast.

A true Mancunian, he supports Manchester United and Sir Alex Ferguson is Shahzad’s idol. On his days off Shahzad still dabbles in the stock market and also advises other startup founders on how to build their business.
