Steve Russell

Chief Delivery Officer & National Director for Vaccinations & Screening, NHS England

Steve is the National Director for Vaccinations and Screening at NHS England and Improvement with responsibility for covid-19 vaccination deployment, routine immunisations, screening and the digital transformation of screening.
He was previously Chief Executive of Harrogate and District Foundation Trust and the NHS’s nightingale hospital in Yorkshire and the Humber, which was setup to support the covid-19 response by providing additional space to care for critically unwell patients with covid-19.

Steve started his career working at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust where he was for 14 years, starting in 1997 on the NHS General Management Training Scheme. He held the post of Executive Director for Medicine and Emergency Care and led the development of Northumbria’s Specialist Emergency Care Hospital. He spent two years as Chief Operating Officer at South London Healthcare NHS Trust, a year as London’s Programme Director (A&E) and Improvement Director for the NHS Trust Development Authority, and two years as Deputy Chief Executive at Barking, Havering & Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust and was Regional Director for London at NHS Improvement.
