Finance is at the heart of Tesco and our Finance team has one of the widest viewpoints in the business – touching every part of the company. Finance at Tesco is about solving real-world business problems and to improve all areas of our organisation. Whether that be by setting strategy, guiding product selection, or reviewing new business opportunities, it’s much more than just numbers!

We want to offer you the opportunity to learn more about what we do, careers in finance, and to develop your future employability. We welcome any Year 10-13 students, no prior experience is required to take part.

The work experience programme will be run online and will involve the completion of a Finance themed challenge, developing skills in the process. At the end of the work experience, you will present your completed challenge back. You will also see first-hand what it’s like to work in the Finance department of a FTSE100 listed company.

Our core purpose: Serving our customers, communities and the planet a little better every day

Serving our customers, communities and planet a little better every day means we always keep customers at the heart of what we do, while also reflecting our responsibilities to the communities we serve and to society more broadly.

Everything we do begins and ends with our customers. By understanding our customers, we can anticipate and respond to their needs and expectations.

As a Group we serve a wide range of different customers, in different settings, from retail customers through to banking, mobile, Booker’s wholesale customers, and dunnhumby’s retailer and supplier clients.

The role we play in the thousands of communities we serve is vital – whether it’s creating good jobs, supporting local suppliers and producers, or helping local causes through our community programmes.

Our commitment to sustainability is core to our business. It drives our work across our own operations and our supply chain to reduce our environmental impact and support a healthier way of living.

When applying, answer the following questions:

  • What problems do you think Finance at Tesco helps solve?
  • What do you hope to gain from doing your work experience with us?

More about what we do:

Serving shoppers a little better every day Our business was built with a simple mission – to be the champion for customers, helping them to enjoy a better quality of life and an easier way of living. This hasn’t changed. Customers want great products at great value, which they can buy easily, and it’s our job to deliver this in the right way for them. That’s why ‘Serving shoppers a little better every day’ is our core purpose. As a business, serving customers is at the heart of everything we do – from colleagues in our stores to those of us in supporting roles. In the UK, we serve some 66 shoppers every second, so it`s our goal to ensure every one of those customers experiences just a little better service on each visit.
