Inspiring the Next Generation of Healthcare Heroes: Experience Nursing 2021

As health services battle against a global pandemic and increasing demand on services, Speakers for Schools is working with medical leaders to help find the next generation of heroes.

The charity will be running virtual insight days and virtual work experience with key employers between January and March 2021.

Having worked with 1,000,000 young people over the last ten years, Speakers for Schools is best placed to introduce the world of nursing to young people who wouldn’t have considered it before – at a time when these roles are never more needed.

Opportunities available within nursing requires a huge diversity in skills – from utilising cutting edge technology to leading teams during a crisis.

Working with key partners including NHS Improvement, Speakers for Schools aim to introduce at least 1350 young people to the world of nursing through virtual insight days and virtual work experience between January and March 2021.

Who will be involved?

Services will be run by expert nurses and industry leaders with a focus on addressing young people’s preconceptions about a career in nursing.

The team at Speakers for Schools is working closely with the Chief Nursing Officer, regional Chief Nurses and key NHS networks such as the Black Men in Nursing Group who will advise on attracting more BAME young men to the profession.

About our ‘Experience’ series

We want to enable children and young people with the choice of picking a career path that’s right for them – regardless of background and circumstance.

We want to build partnerships across different sectors to make this happen – allowing young people aged 11+ to hear first-hand from experts in each sector and take on work experience placements to learn on the job.
