Watch our founder Robert Peston take the floor at the Education Select Committee.

Make high quality work experience accessible to all!

At the end of last month, Robert Peston was a guest panellist at the sixth session into the inquiry of careers education at the Education Select Committee. Robert highlighted the benefits of virtual and hybrid work experience and made an impassioned case for access to high-quality work experience to be a universal right for all young people.

The committee acknowledged the current inconsistency of careers education provision across the country and explored how large-scale interventions such as work experience and other employer engagements could be achieved in a more equitable way across the regions.

Speakers for Schools partnered with the Labour Party to deliver a regional skills roundtable event in Nottingham to discuss the skills and experiences young people need before transitioning out of education and into the world of work.

Chaired by our very own Head of Research & Policy Dr. Elnaz Kashef, the session saw Stephen Morgan, Shadow Minister for Schools, alongside leading local employers from the Speakers for Schools’ network – including included organisations such as Boots, Microlise and many more – meet with young people from nearby school The Carlton Academy to take part in a lively open discussion.

“I was delighted to speak with local businesses, school leaders and students in Nottingham to hear their experiences on what they’d like to see change to ensure children now and in the futureare equipped with the skills needed to succeed.”
Stephen Morgan MP, Shadow Minister for Schools
