The King of Content: Introducing Jean-Patrick Cheylan

Chances are if you are under 25, you’ll struggle to remember life before social media – you may even struggle to recall a time before TikTok if you’re a teenager right now. But like it or not, these days social media plays an increasingly large role in shaping our view of the world and contributes massively to our own unique digital footprint.

An open platform: an open playing field

Whoever you are, wherever you are, if you’re armed with a smart phone, you’ll be plugged into social media in one form or another – be it TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram or Twitter – streaming and more often than not, creating your own content.

And because social media provides an open platform for everyone and anyone, it’s an open playing field where a single well-crafted tweet can go viral in a matter of minutes – just think of Weetabix’s controversial baked bean meme tweeted in early 2021.

Content is King

It’s hard to believe but Bill Gates first coined the phrase ‘Content is King’ back in 1996 in a time before social media as we know it even existed. His comments then were based on the idea that the internet was the ultimate platform, but it’s what businesses choose to present on this platform – i.e the content – where the real money would be made. This thinking still holds true today and no-one knows this better than Jean-Patrick Cheylan, Head of Entertainment Partnerships across the EMEA region for Twitter.

Introducing Jean-Patrick Cheylan

Jean-Patrick could well be considered a King of Content in his own right based on his achievements to date. He currently leads an international team of content creators who, with his support, have mastered the art of growing and monetising their audience through Twitter. For a self-confessed nerd who started out with a love of comics, gaming and music, but no clear game plan, he’s done very well for himself – having forged an impressive career over the course of the last 15 years in the incredibly fast-paced and keenly competitive digital industry.
